The apartment Skadar Lake offers the accommodation with the view on the Rijeka Crnojevića and the river town Obod.

This accommodation is situated in the centre of the town Rijeka Crnojević, one of the oldest settlements in the Riječna Nahija (old River Region). This place is a part of the offer of the gastronomic and wine tourism.

Rijeka Crnojevića - River Crnojević

Rijeka Crnojevića is situated on the old road Cetinje-Podgorica. It is 17km away from Cetinje and 24km from Podgorica. You can reach Rijeka from Virpazar, Ljubotinja, Cetinje and Podgorica. It is settled in the ravine of the river issuing from the Obod cave. The length of the river is 2.5 km. It is navigable from Rijeka to the lake for smaller boats and vessels.

The greatest value of this area is Skadar Lake. Obod cave is interesting which is situated in the northwest part from the town. It is a natural phenomenon of its kind and represents an attraction for the residents, occasional tourists as well as for people who enjoy natural beauty. Obod cave has at its exit a large spacious throat with natural corridors related to three other caves: Strugar, Lipa and Monastery cave (just below the Cetinje monastery). It is difficult to go through the cave due to giant stones 2m high and more. There is a steep slope towards the first small lake at 50m from the entrance to the cave.

Historical facts

Ivan Crnojević, the most powerful Montenegrin ruler, transferred the capital from Zabljak Crnojevica to the area of Rijeka Crnojevica and founded the fortified city in the 1470s.
Mild valley of the Rijeka was intesively populated in the second half of the XVIII century. Rulers of the Petrovic Dynasty built their houses for relaxation in XIX century, when the town assumes the character of the destination for trade and craft. At the end of XIX and beginning of XX century Rijeka had the first arms factory, wood mill, port, plumbing, factory for production of artificial pearls, hotels, cafes numerous trade and craft shops.

What to visit?

Cultural and historical sight, the Old Town Obod is less than a kilometer from Rijeka Crnojevic and it was built by Ivan Crnojevic in 1475. The first cyrilic printing press on the Balkans was brought to Obod. The famous clerical book "Oktoih" was printed at the end of 1493 in the printing house in Obod, and finished in Cetinje in January 1494.

The old bridge was built by knyaz (prince) Danilo Petrovic in the town centre in 1852 and with the house on the left bank makes a unique complex known as "Mostina". With its distinctive contour, the stone bridge represents the symbol of the town and it is one of the most beautiful constructions of this kind in Montenegro.

The house of St Petar Cetinjski, better known as Vladicina kuca, (Bishop's house), is one of the oldest in the town. The orthodox bishop, Petar I, built it between 1810 and 1815. The house represents a typical example of the popular architecture at the beginning of XIX century where influences of coastal and oriental style mixed. Throughout the time it suffered numerous changes. Today it serves as a monastery konak (dormitory) Obod.

King Nikola built a summer house in Rijeka Crnojevic and a new big stone bridge in 1905. In the vicinity of the bridge there is a monument in honour of the fallen soldiers.

Queen Milena, the wife of knyaz and king Nikola had a fountain built in Rijeka's market place in 1910, which was later called "Queen Milena's fountain".
